New Delhi, Oct 21 – Ayurveda Day is no longer a local celebration – it’s turning into a worldwide health movement, said Dr Naresh Kumar, chief scientist at CSIR‑NIScPR.
During the 10th Ayurveda Day event, the scientist showed how the ancient Indian system of natural healing has spread far beyond India’s borders. “Ayurveda today is a global trend that promotes sustainability and holistic health,” Dr Kumar told the crowd.
The day also featured a special SVASTIK lecture. SVASTIK—short for “Scientifically Validated Societal Traditional Knowledge”—brings evidence‑backed facts about Ayurveda to the public. Dr Kumar urged doctors, researchers, and practitioners to keep dosage standards high, fight misinformation, and market Ayurveda responsibly.
Dr Kishore Patel of the Central Ayurveda Research Institute gave a clear talk on how Ayurveda tackles lifestyle and stress‑related illnesses. He stressed the power of balanced nutrition, mindful eating, and ethical living, citing the ancient concepts of Āchāra Rasāyana and Sadvṛtta.
Rajesh Kumar Singh Roshan, CSIR‑NIScPR’s administration head, traced Ayurveda’s roots to early Indian physicians, especially Āchārya Nāgārjuna. He highlighted growing global recognition of Ayurveda as a comprehensive health‑care system.
Prof. Ranjana Aggarwal, a respected organic chemist and former CSIR‑NIScPR director, highlighted the need to blend natural, social, and spiritual sciences. She warned that the internet often distorts traditional wisdom and called for clear, science‑based communication and education.
Ayurveda Day used to fall on Dhanteras, the lunar‑calendar festival in honor of Lord Dhanwantari, the god of medicine. To give the tradition a fixed date, the Ministry of Ayush set September 23 as Ayurveda Day, enabling worldwide participation.
The celebration marks a milestone for Ayurveda, showing that age‑old methods can meet modern health demands while staying true to natural living.
