New Delhi, Oct 16 – India’s flagship Ayushman Bharat health program has reached more than 45 crore people, the National Health Authority (NHA) announced after a two‑day review in Bhopal. The annual report, presented by the NHA at the meeting, highlighted the rapid growth of the PM‑JAY insurance scheme and the digital leap forward of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the NHA, said the moment marks a “pivotal step” in weaving digital health into everyday care and ensuring everyone gets quality treatment. He added that states and union territories must lead the digital push to keep Ayushman Bharat the world’s largest health transformation scheme.
Key figures from the 2024‑25 report include:
- 9.19 crore hospital stays covered under PM‑JAY, worth ₹1,29,386 crore in treatment costs.
- Over 30,000 hospitals—55 % public, 45 % private—now empanelled, giving people access across the country.
- 82 % of beneficiaries live in rural areas, proving the scheme reaches those who need it most.
- 40.45 crore Ayushman cards issued, protecting 14.69 crore families.
ABDM’s digital push is reshaping how Indians use health services. The report records:
- 76.5 crore AYUSHMAN BHAARAT HEALTH ACCOUNTS (ABHA) linked to 51.3 crore health records, meaning 6 in 10 Indians now have a digital health profile.
- The ABHA app, Version 3, is available in 13 languages and has over 1.57 million downloads. It generates 200,000‑300,000 tokens daily for smooth outpatient registration and payments.
- A strong call‑centre and online grievance redress system helped the scheme resolve 96 % of complaints and earned a 95 % beneficiary satisfaction rate. Call‑quality scores averaged 87 %, with 98 % of users reporting a positive experience on PM‑JAY.
“Digital public infrastructure isn’t just a tool—it’s a transformation," said Kiran Gopal Vaska, mission director of ABDM, and the “ABDM Index” will help keep the system accountable and innovative. Vaska emphasized that better care coordination bridges data and dignity, and the integration of ABDM with PM‑JAY is a real game‑changer.
In short, Ayushman Bharat continues to expand coverage, cut costs for families, and leverage technology to make health care accessible, affordable and people‑friendly across India.
