Dhaka, Nov 23 (LatestNewsX) – Bangladesh is facing a rapidly escalating dengue crisis, with both cases and deaths climbing sharply across the country. In the 24 hours leading up to Sunday, a record eight people died from dengue, pushing the total 2025 fatalities to 364, according to local media.
During the same span, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that 778 new patients were admitted to hospitals, bringing the cumulative number of dengue cases in 2025 to 90,264, as United News of Bangladesh confirmed. The deaths were distributed as follows: three in the Mymensingh division, two in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and one each in the Barishal, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions.
The DGHS data shows that this year’s dengue patients are 62.3 % male and 37.7 % female, while the fatality distribution is 51.9 % male and 48.1 % female. For context, 575 people lost their lives to dengue in 2024, and 1,705 died in 2023.
On November 6, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued an advisory in response to the spike in Aedes mosquito infections and the rising number of dengue cases nationwide. The ministry urged anyone experiencing fever to seek medical help immediately, get a dengue test at the nearest health‑service centre, and follow a qualified doctor’s advice. Early detection and rapid treatment are vital for preventing serious complications, the report said.
The advisory also called on households, construction sites, schools, and other facilities to eliminate standing water around their premises and to use mosquito nets while sleeping, given the day‑time biting habits of the Aedes mosquito. Authorities stressed that anyone who consults a doctor should not dismiss lingering symptoms, even if dengue signs appear to subside. With dengue cases continuing to climb, the ministry’s message underscores the urgent need for heightened public vigilance and preventive action.
