In Gandhinagar on Friday, Gujarat’s health minister Praful Pansheriya announced tough new measures after finding several hospitals in the state failing to follow the rules of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana‑Maa Amritam (PMJAY‑MA) scheme.
The minister personally checked the inspection reports and told the health secretary and other officials to act fast against the non‑compliant hospitals.
During surprise visits, four hospitals were hand‑cuffed by the state:
-
Deep Children Hospital and Neonatal Care in Godhra (Panchmahal) – the facility was shut down because it could not meet the required standards for prenatal intensive care units (ICU) and neonatal ICU. Inspectors found expired medicines, no MBBS doctor on duty, no patient‑information kiosk, and poor infection‑control practices.
-
Kashima Hospital in Bharuch – the health department suspended this hospital for similar reasons: missing neonatal and prenatal ICU standards, weak infection control, no information kiosk, and unqualified nursing staff. The hospital also lacked a building‑use permission and fire‑no‑objection certificate, and no medical officer was available until noon.
-
Maa Children and General Hospital in Kalol (Panchmahal) – this hospital received a show‑cause notice because it had not installed a “beneficiary information kiosk” as required by the scheme.
-
Maa Children and Neonatal Care in Devgadh Baria (Dahod) – another show‑cause notice was issued after inspectors found expired drugs in the neonatal ICU. The hospital also refused to supply CCTV footage and did not display a scheme‑information kiosk.
Minister Pansheriya stressed that Gujarat’s government is committed to fair, transparent, and compassionate healthcare for the poor and middle class. “We have zero tolerance for malpractice or inhuman treatment,” he said. Any hospital that ignores its duty to serve humanity will face the strictest disciplinary action.
The health secretary will now pursue immediate enforcement against the offending facilities. Gujarat aims to strengthen accountability and service quality across its public healthcare network under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, ensuring every citizen receives dignified medical care.
