In Hyderabad, a 28‑year‑old man died from a suspected drug overdose, and two others—his friend and his live‑in partner—were taken ill, police confirmed on Thursday morning.

Ahmed Ali, a Kalapather resident, was in a rented flat in Shivrampally’s gated community with his friend Zohra (also 28) and another friend Syed Bin Salah. The trio reportedly used drugs, including opium, on Wednesday night. Ali began vomiting blood and collapsed, prompting his friends to rush him to a hospital. He passed away during the transfer.

Police moved his body to Osmania General Hospital for a post‑mortem. Forensic samples are being examined at the Rajendranagar police station of the Cyberabad Commissionerate, where a case has been registered. Zohra and Salah were examined and are reported to be stable.

In a separate but related operation, the Rajendranagar police, together with Special Operations Teams (SOT) from Rajendranagar and Madhapur zones, arrested six people linked to MDMA and ganja distribution. Deputy Commissioner of Police Yogesh Goutam said the raid seized 18 grams of MDMA, 130 grams of ganja, and five mobile phones.

The arrest targeted three suppliers—Sangadi Santosh (26, Kakinada), Gandhi Sandeep (23, Bengaluru), and Kandepalli Shiva Kumar (23, Rajasthambhu)—and three consumers—Palaka Sai Babu (25, Rajahmundry), Kotha Vishal Reddy (28, Khajaguda), and Plishetty Sameer (24, KPHB). The suppliers had prior drug‑offense records, with Santosh previously booked under the NDPS Act in Andhra Pradesh. The main supplier remains at large.

Investigators traced the drug sourcing back to an unidentified Instagram contact who arranged deliveries via interstate peddlers. They transported 17 grams of MDMA and 150 grams of ganja from Bengaluru to Hyderabad, hiding the drugs in bags. The group was intercepted at Aramghar X Road in Rajendranagar, leading to the arrests.

All six suspects are in judicial custody, and police are actively searching for the absconding key supplier.
