Mumbai – The Maharashtra government has launched a new “war room” to crack down on duplicate health benefits. The move aims to bring together every health‑related scheme from both central and state governments into one coordinated system.
The war room will be headed by Praveen Pardeshi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA). A 12‑member team will include leaders from Public Health, Medical Education, Social Justice, Women & Child Welfare, Law & Judiciary, Labour, Tribal Development, Minority Development, and Divyang welfare. The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund cell head and an assistant director will also sit on the committee.
“We keep getting reports of people claiming benefits from more than one scheme, which is not allowed,” said a Public Health department official. “This war room will streamline all health schemes so that benefits are clear and fair.”
The initiative follows a directive from the Chief Minister to set up a dedicated health war room. A toll‑free number, 1800 123 2211, will also serve as a single point of contact for all health‑related assistance.
Maharashtra already operates a war room that monitors infrastructure, industrial, and social sector projects. MITRA, created under the current Eknath Shinde administration, is modeled after NITI Aayog and works with private and non‑profit partners to speed state development. Pardeshi, formerly an IAS officer, also serves as the Chief Economic Advisor and co‑chair secretary of the state’s data policy committee, giving him broad oversight of public initiatives.
With this new health war room, Maharashtra hopes to make health benefits simpler, eliminate overlaps, and improve service delivery for residents.
