In New Delhi, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav praised the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Saturday for strengthening the country’s food safety system. He spotlighted their work in training and empowering people at the grassroots level.
Jadhav pointed out that FSSAI has trained more than 300,000 street food vendors across India. He gave a shoutout to the ‘Eat Right India’ initiative, especially the ‘Eat Right Street Food Hub’, which shows how traditional Indian foods can easily meet today’s safety standards without losing their charm.
He shared these thoughts during the Global Food Regulators Summit (GFRS) 2025, which FSSAI hosted at Bharat Mandapam. This two-day event brought together food safety experts, regulators, policymakers, industry leaders, and officials from around the world to discuss key challenges in food safety and regulations. It fostered real collaboration and idea-sharing to make global food systems safer.
“Food isn’t just fuel for our bodies—it’s the foundation of a healthy mind and conscious living,” Jadhav said. He stressed the power of scientific research and innovation in boosting food safety and public health worldwide. India, he added, is fully committed to aligning its food safety standards with international ones and called on global regulators to team up against new threats.
The summit drew dignitaries from over 70 countries and international organizations, highlighting a shared push to protect consumer health and support fair trade.
Dr. VK Paul, a member of NITI Aayog, echoed the need for unified global rules on bio-manufactured foods—a hot topic at the summit. He also pushed for promoting traditional Indian foods through regulations like “Ayurveda Aahara,” which would validate their health benefits and help blend them safely into the worldwide market.
FSSAI CEO Rajit Punhani wrapped up by saying that by working together, “we can build resilient, transparent, and future-ready food systems that safeguard public health and foster trust across borders.”
