In Kanpur’s busy Mishri Bazar area just inside the Moolganj police station’s limits, a sudden explosion rattled the streets on the evening of October 8. Two scooters blew up close to each other, sending sparks and smoke into the air and wrecking nearby shops.
Police say the blast was powerful enough to destroy the scooters and shatter shop windows. “Around 7:15 p.m., we heard a loud bang,” said Joint Police Commissioner Ashutosh Kumar. “The station officer on patrol rushed to the spot and found several people hurt. The explosions seemed to come from inside the scooters.”
Emergency teams ran to the site. Firefighters, bomb‑disposal specialists, and forensic investigators all arrived quickly to check for any explosive device. The police cordoned off the area while they examined broken scooter parts and debris for clues.
Six people were injured. One woman, who suffered severe burns, is now in critical condition and has been admitted to a local hospital. All victims are being monitored closely.
The incident has raised worry extra‑especially as Mishri Bazar is a bustling commercial hub with many toy and décor shops. Shopkeepers feared that the blast could bring more damage.
Police continue to investigate what caused the scooter explosions. “We’re looking for any explosive material in the remains,” the commissioner said. “Only the forensic report will confirm the cause.”
Residents and shopowners remain on high alert, hoping the investigation will quickly reveal what sparked the dangerous blast in Uttar Pradesh.
