Bhopal – Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav dropped by Hamida Hospital on Friday night to check on kids that were hurt in a recent carbide‑gun blast. The visit came after police said they seized almost 60 carbide guns in Bhopal and arrested two suspects.
The carbide‑gun scandal has left several children with serious eye injuries. Dr. Kavita Kumar, head of the eye department at Hamida, told reporters that six kids were still in the hospital with severe injuries, while 27 others were treated and sent home in the last three days.
During the visit, CM Yadav spoke with the hospital doctors and asked them to give the best possible care to the children and to any other affected citizens across the state. He also announced that money from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund would be used to help these patients.
“Health officials keep a close eye on incidents like this,” Yadav said. “Because producing and selling carbide guns is illegal, we are cracking down on the manufacturers and sellers. Police are conducting raids at the local level to stop their use.”
Parents of the hospitalized children thanked the hospital staff and expressed relief that the treatment was thorough. They described the use of carbide guns by family members as an unfortunate mistake.
The CM’s trip to Bhopal followed a day of campaigning in Bihar, where he delivered three election rallies. On his way to the hospital he was joined by Sandeep Yadav, chief secretary of the health department, and Deepak Kumar Saxena, the state public relations commissioner.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla and Opposition Leader Umang Singhar had also visited Hamida to show support for patients and to discuss safety measures.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter enforcement of laws that ban the sale of carbide guns. Police and health officials say they will keep monitoring the situation closely.
