Union Minister Piyush Goyal Encourages India Inc. to Pass GST Benefits to Consumers

In a positive move to boost India’s economy, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal urged businesses across the country to pass on the benefits of recent GST rate cuts to consumers. The GST reduction applies to many goods and services, and Goyal emphasized that this is a great opportunity to increase demand and support economic growth.

Speaking at the Bharat Nutraverse Expo 2025 in New Delhi, Goyal said that the recent GST rate cuts will give a much-needed boost to consumption. He explained that lower taxes mean lower prices for consumers, which can lead to increased sales and higher demand. This, in turn, helps businesses grow and creates a win-win situation for everyone.

The minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing this “festival gift” to the nation during Independence Day celebrations. He highlighted that the government’s big overhaul of GST policies will benefit a wide range of products and services, encouraging both consumers and industries to thrive.

Goyal strongly urged industry leaders to ensure that every rupee saved through these GST cuts is passed directly to consumers. He pointed out that GST on many items has been reduced to as low as 5%, resulting in significant savings for buyers and making products more affordable. This reduction is expected to boost demand across sectors, supporting overall economic growth.

He also emphasized the importance of supporting Indian-made products. Goyal called on the industry to promote products manufactured in India, regardless of whether ownership is Indian or foreign. These products create jobs for young Indians, support local communities, and embody the nation’s pride. When Indian products reach every corner of the country, they symbolize self-reliance and contribute to “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047.

Highlighting India’s strong economic performance, Goyal shared that the country’s GDP grew by 7.8% in the first quarter of the year. Despite global uncertainties, India remains the fastest-growing large economy, led confidently by Prime Minister Modi. He expressed optimism about India’s future, aiming for the country to reach a $30 trillion GDP by 2047 and become a prosperous, developed nation.

Goyal also spoke about the importance of health and nutrition for India’s growth. He emphasized that the nutraceuticals sector, which promotes healthy food products, plays a key role. It supports farmers, small businesses, and enhances public health. Goyal highlighted the health benefits of turmeric, ginger, and probiotics, encouraging Indians to adopt nutritious foods for a healthier future.

In summary, Goyal’s message is clear: lower GST helps consumers, supports Indian industry, and builds a stronger, self-reliant India. The government’s focus is on making products affordable, promoting Indian-made goods, and ensuring the nation’s growth journey continues steadily towards 2047.
