From Financial Ruin to Success: How PM Modi’s Jan Aushadhi Scheme Transformed One Man’s Life in Odisha
In the heart of Odisha’s Jajpur district, a simple government initiative has turned despair into hope for Ravindra Kumar Sahu, a resident of Nahaka village under Vyasanagar Municipality. As India marks Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday today, stories like Ravindra’s highlight the real impact of PM Modi’s flagship schemes on everyday lives.
Ravindra once ran a successful contracting business, but tough times hit hard. Financial losses piled up, debts mounted, and the stress took a toll on his mental health. With a family to feed and no steady income in sight, things looked grim. "I felt stuck with no way out," he recalls.
Everything changed during a trip to Bhubaneswar. While driving past AIIMS Hospital, Ravindra spotted a Jan Aushadhi Kendra—a government store selling affordable generic medicines—right next to a poster of PM Modi. Desperate for ideas, he walked in and chatted with the owner. The concept blew him away: a Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana initiative that makes quality medicines accessible to all while creating business opportunities for people like him.
Inspired, Ravindra rushed back to Vyasanagar and applied online to start his own Jan Aushadhi Kendra. With quick government approval and full support, he opened his store at Nahaka Chhak. Today, it buzzes with customers seeking budget-friendly healthcare solutions.
Ravindra’s turnaround is nothing short of inspiring. His Jan Aushadhi Kendra now provides essential generic medicines at prices up to 80% lower than branded ones, easing the burden on local families. Best of all, he’s built a stable income and even employed his two younger brothers, giving them a fresh start too.
"I’m so grateful to PM Modi for this scheme," Ravindra shares emotionally. "It gave me a second chance and lets me help my community every day."
Locals can’t praise it enough. "We get all our daily medicines here without breaking the bank—it’s a real game-changer for us," says one regular customer from the village.
Stories like Ravindra’s show how PM Modi’s Jan Aushadhi Kendra scheme is empowering entrepreneurs and improving healthcare access across India, one store at a time.
