In Tripura, a new private super‑speciality hospital is set to transform the state’s health services. Chief Minister Manik Saha laid the foundation stone on Wednesday at Radha Kishore Nagar in West Tripura. He said the Rs 900‑crore project will boost the region’s medical care and help keep patients from traveling outside the state for treatment.

Saha, who also runs the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, revealed that the government will provide about 28 acres of land to the hospital’s owners. The project plans to build not only the facility but also a medical college, bringing advanced training to doctors and students in the northeast.

“Doctors must keep learning to meet new medical challenges,” Saha told the crowd. He pointed out that even after starting nine super‑speciality units at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital with a Rs 250‑crore investment, many patients still sought care elsewhere. The private hospital’s past success—such as performing kidney transplants in Tripura—has given the state confidence that similar services can be expanded locally.

A dental surgeon himself, Saha also shared his recent keynote talk on forensic odontology at the National Forensic Sciences University in Ahmedabad. He noted how dental evidence helped identify victims of an air crash and suggested that Tripura introduce forensic odontology into its own forensic university.

Highlighting national leadership, he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, comparing Gujarat’s rapid growth under Modi’s tenure as a model for Tripura. After meeting Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Ahmedabad, Saha said he will seek cooperation to replicate Gujarat’s success here, creating jobs for both tribal and non‑tribal residents.

The foundation‑laying ceremony drew many dignitaries, including MLA and former assembly speaker Ratan Chakraborty, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, the hospital’s chief executive Dr Palin Khundongbam, senior doctors, and health officials.

The new super‑speciality hospital is expected to serve thousands of people in the surrounding communities, speeding up overall development in Tripura and strengthening the state’s position in the northeast region.
