Zerodha Faces Technical Glitch, Traders Frustrated
Many Zerodha users faced trouble on Wednesday as the popular online trading platform experienced a technical glitch. The issue mainly affected the Kite app, making it difficult for traders to see real-time stock prices.
The problem quickly drew complaints on social media. Users shared their frustrations, recalling similar issues from the past. Zerodha responded promptly on X (formerly Twitter), at around 9:50 AM, acknowledging the problem. They assured users that placing orders was still working fine but advised logging in through the Kite web on mobile browsers to check prices. By 9:51 AM, Zerodha announced that the glitch was fixed.
Despite the quick response, many traders expressed dissatisfaction. Some questioned who would be responsible for potential losses caused by the app’s downtime. One user, Shubham Nimawat, wrote, “Zerodha hasn’t responded for 15 minutes. I can’t square off my positions. Who will bear the loss?” Another, Kartik Shah, said, “This keeps happening. Traders lose money during outages, and Zerodha needs to be more accountable.”
Interestingly, some users shared old posts from 2019 and 2018, highlighting that technical issues had occurred multiple times over the years.
Zerodha is India’s largest retail trading platform, with over 1.6 crore clients and billions of orders every year. It accounts for more than 15% of all retail trading volume in India. However, recent data from the NSE shows that the top four online trading platforms, including Zerodha, lost around 20 lakh active investors in the first half of 2025. Zerodha alone lost over 5.4 lakh active traders during this period.
While technical glitches are common in digital platforms, traders want better stability and accountability from their brokers. Zerodha continues to be a dominant player in Indian stock trading, but users hope such issues will decrease in the future for smoother trading experiences.
