In a swift rescue operation, 270 Indian citizens were brought back to India from Thailand after fleeing dangerous cyber‑crime camps in Myanmar. Eleven of those evacuees came from Telangana, the southern Indian state that has been heavily hit by overseas fraud schemes.
The 11 returnees landed in Delhi on a special Indian Air Force (IAF) flight that took off on Thursday night. After landing, Telangana officials quickly transferred them to the Telangana Bhavan office in New Delhi. There, investigators completed a brief verification process, then arranged temporary housing and organized their journey to Hyderabad.
Sources say the individuals were lured to Myawaddy, Myanmar, by promises of “high‑paying” online jobs. Instead, they were forced into illegal digital work and kept captive in cyber‑crime hubs run by organised fraud networks. The Telangana government’s prompt action helped free these people before they could be further exploited.
The IAF’s two special flights also carried 26 women and the rest of the 270 Indians, including many from Chiang Mai, Thailand. They were flown to Hindon airbase in Uttar Pradesh for debriefing and follow‑up support. The government’s coordinated effort with the Ministry of External Affairs and other agencies ensured that the refugees received essential care and safe passage home.
Telangana officials highlighted that this operation continues a series of rescue missions launched across the Myanmar‑Thailand border region. Those deployed at the border have been working to dismantle the online scam rings that prey on vulnerable workers and to repatriate those trapped in cyber‑fraud circles.
