Cordell Tinch Surprises in Men’s 110m Hurdles

Switching gears to the sprints, USA’s Cordell Tinch claimed the men’s 110m hurdles crown with a time of 12.99 seconds—his first global gold. The 25-year-old had posted a season-best 12.87 in May, and he delivered under pressure in Tokyo.

Jamaica’s Orlando Bennett raced to silver in a personal best of 13.08 seconds, with teammate Tyler Mason taking bronze at 13.12. This hurdles race added more excitement to the championships, highlighting rising stars in sprint hurdles.

Faith Kipyegon Dominates Women’s 1500m Yet Again

Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon kept her middle-distance magic alive, powering to victory in the women’s 1500m final. The two-time Olympic champ and world record holder clocked 3:52.15 to bag her fifth world title—and fourth in the 1500m. Just months ago in July, she set a new world record of 3:48.68 in Eugene, USA, proving she’s unbeatable in women’s 1500m races.

Her compatriot Dorcus Ewoi shone bright with a personal best of 3:54.92 for silver, giving Kenya a clean one-two finish. Australia’s Jessica Hull grabbed bronze in 3:55.16, just ahead of Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir, who ran a personal best 3:55.25 for fourth. Kipyegon’s win cements her legacy in track and field history.

Armand Duplantis Breaks World Record in Pole Vault Glory

Earlier on Monday, Sweden’s Armand Duplantis made history in the men’s pole vault, clearing 6.30 meters to shatter his own world record and clinch his third straight title. The 25-year-old, already a two-time Olympic gold medalist, wowed the Tokyo National Stadium crowd by topping his previous 6.29-meter mark on his third try at the new height.

Duplantis locked in the gold early with a perfect first-attempt jump at 6.15 meters, after sailing through 5.75, 5.85, 5.95, 6.00, and 6.10 meters without a miss. Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis took silver with a 6.00-meter clearance on his first go, while Australia’s Kurtis Marschall earned bronze at 5.95 meters.

USA’s Sam Kendricks, a two-time world champ from 2017 and 2019, finished fourth at 5.95 meters but needed more attempts than Marschall. France’s Renaud Lavillenie, the 2012 Olympic winner and former record holder, ended up eighth with 5.75 meters. Duplantis’s pole vault feat has fans raving about the future of the event.
