25 years in service, PM Modi thanks public for ‘continuous trust and affection’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated 25 years of public service on Tuesday, thanking India’s citizens for their “continuous trust and affection.” He posted on X that he earned his first political oath on 7 October 2001 when he became Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Modi said he feels “renewed determination” to keep pushing the vision of a prosperous India. “My gratitude goes to the people of India,” he wrote, adding that his focus has always been to improve lives and help the nation grow.

He reflected on the challenges he faced in Gujarat’s early days. In 2001 a massive earthquake, a cyclone, droughts and political unrest had left the state in a tough spot. Modi said those tests “strengthened my resolve” to rebuild Gujarat with “renewed vigour and hope.” He also recalled his mother’s words when he took office: “Work for the poor, never take a bribe,” and vowed always to act with the best intention and a vision to serve the people.

Modi highlighted his 25‑year journey as full of experience. He said Gujarat, once seen as a “drought‑prone” state, became a powerhouse of agriculture and industry. After rural farmers complained of power and water shortages, the state grew into a big exporter of goods, built modern infrastructure and ended frequent curfews.

Looking back at 2013, when he was chosen as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Modi said India was then facing a crisis of trust. The former UPA government was blamed for corruption, cronyism and policy paralysis. He noted that Narendra Modi’s United Progressive Alliance won a “complete majority” in parliament— a first in three decades—after voters sought change.

The prime minister outlined his government’s achievements over the past 11 years. He said India has lifted more than 25 million people out of poverty and that his “path‑breaking efforts” empower women, youth and farmers. Modi also said India is now a “bright spot” among global economies, boasting one of the biggest healthcare and social security schemes worldwide and a self‑reliant agriculture sector.

He urged India to keep embracing “Swadeshi” and “Aatmanirbhar.” “We’ve introduced reforms to make the country self‑sufficient in every sector,” Modi said, echoing the national call, “Be proud, this is our Swadeshi.”

Concluding his message, Modi thanked the nation again for its trust and affection. He promised to work harder, guided by India’s Constitution, to realize the collective dream of a developed India—Viksit Bharat.
