Delhi Police Bust Fake Highway Robbery in Record Time: 6,000 kg Copper Scrap Recovered, 4 Arrested
In a quick win for law enforcement, the Delhi Police Crime Branch solved a shocking fake highway robbery case in just 48 hours. They recovered a whopping 6,000 kg of stolen copper scrap worth Rs 55 lakh and nabbed four men, including the truck driver who faked the whole incident. The news came on Saturday, leaving everyone impressed by the speedy probe.
The drama started on September 10 when driver Manish Kumar filed a complaint at New Usmanpur police station. He claimed he was hauling copper scrap from Libaspur to Madoli when a car cut him off near Signature Bridge. The men inside pretended to be bank officials, broke into his truck, and injected him with a sedative. Kumar said he woke up at Jag Pravesh Hospital with the cargo gone – a classic highway robbery story.
But the police weren’t buying it right away. A sharp team led by Inspector Pukhraj Singh, under ACP Ashok Sharma and DCP Harsh Indora, dove into the details. They scanned over 200 CCTV videos and checked phone records to piece things together. During grilling, Kumar slipped up with conflicting stories and finally spilled the beans: he had staged the entire robbery with his buddies.
The cops zeroed in on the suspects. Manish Kumar, the driver from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, turned out to be the main planner. He’s a heavy drinker who’s lost multiple jobs and cooked up this scheme for quick cash. His friend Aditya, an unemployed graduate from Bihar, jumped in as a co-conspirator. Arun Soni, a junk dealer from Kotla Vihar, masterminded the logistics and figured out how to sell the loot. And Ramzan, a drug addict from Gonda, played the role of the injector to make the fake attack look real.
Police seized it all: the full 6,000 kg copper consignment stuffed in 80 bags, the TATA-709 truck used in the plot, and even the syringe with sedative. No stone left unturned in this Delhi police investigation.
DCP Harsh Indora praised his team’s efforts, saying, "This fast and smart work by the Crime Branch NR-I team not only caught everyone behind this clever criminal plan but also got back every bit of the stolen goods. It shows Delhi Police’s dedication to keeping our roads safe and solving serious crimes without delay."
