AAP MP seeks special flood relief package of Rs 50,000 crore for Punjab

In New Delhi on December 3, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang took the floor in the Lok Sabha to highlight the devastation that the recent floods have wreaked across Punjab. He pressed the central government to unleash a special relief package of Rs 50,000 crore for the battered region, alleging that two months after the deluge, the aggrieved 2,500 villages in six districts still had not received a single rupee from the nation’s coffers.

Kang recounted that the floods had swept through the state, destroying roughly 5 lakh acres of crops and leaving entire communities in ruins. He pointed out that the districts hardest hit were those along the border, the very same areas whose residents had stood shoulder to shoulder with the Indian Army during “Operation Sindoor.” Despite visits from the Prime Minister and several Union Ministers, he said, the government has made no monetary contribution to help these districts recover.

He likened Punjab’s plight to that of Bihar, where similarly massive relief bundles—ranging from Rs 50,000 crore to Rs 90,000 crore—are announced during election campaigns. “Punjab has given the greatest contribution to India’s freedom struggle and its food reserves, yet it is being ignored in its hour of need,” Kang asserted, calling the neglect “unparalleled discrimination.”

The MP also criticized the states of Haryana and Rajasthan for refusing to share water and for offering no assistance during the crisis. He urged the government to act immediately, insisting that the fund would lift people, especially those in border zones who have long served the nation, out of the wreckage of their homes, hospitals, roads, and crushed crops.
