AAP to hold Kisan Mahapanchayat in Gujarat’s Botad Marketing Yard to raise voice of farmers: Gopal Rai

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) says the BJP‑led central and Gujarat governments are ignoring cotton farmers’ demands and are effectively betraying them.
Gopal Rai, the party’s Gujarat chief, warned that if the farmers’ demands are not met by 5 pm on Sunday, AAP will stage a huge Mahapanchayat at Botad Marketing Yard. The rally is meant to give the farmers’ voices a louder platform and to draw attention to the real issues facing the cotton growers.

Rai criticized the BJP’s recent move to cut the import duty on American cotton to zero. “That decision robs Indian farmers of fair prices,” he said, arguing it favors foreign producers over local growers. He also called the arrest of several AAP leaders by the Gujarat Police a “desperate attempt to crush the farmers’ movement.”
“If justice is denied, the agitation will spread to all markets of Gujarat,” Rai warned.

At a press conference held at AAP headquarters on Saturday, Rai highlighted how the Gujarat government keeps working against farmers’ interests and uses harsh measures against those who raise their voices. He said cotton growers routinely sell their produce at Botad Marketing Yard, where they face local exploitation. Last Friday, thousands of farmers amassed there to protest the exploitation and demand fair prices and an end to harassment. The farmers’ protest continues to have a growing impact across the state.
