Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee slammed a controversial statement made by BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar, who represents Ranaghat in Nadia district, West Bengal.
Sarkar said that if the BJP wins the 2026 state elections, West Bengal will put an end to the barbed‑fence barrier on the India‑Bangladesh border and the two countries would effectively become one again.
Banerjee hit back on social media, calling the comment “deeply hypocritical” and pointing out that the BJP has been blaming the West Bengal government for not providing land to strengthen border security.
He urged the party to suspend Sarkar, saying that if the BJP truly cared about national integrity it should act against the MP’s statements.
A video of Sarkar making the remark at a public meeting went viral last week, sparking a sharp debate over border policy and political promises.
