Amit Shah participates in tree plantation drive in Gandhinagar under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign

Union Home Minister Amit Shah joined a lively tree-planting event in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Tuesday, organized by the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) as part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. He called on everyone to step up and plant trees to protect the environment and boost health.

In a post on X, Shah highlighted the strong excitement in Gandhinagar for tree plantation drives. “People here show real passion for this every year, and today was no different,” he wrote. He planted a sapling at Vavol during the IFFCO event. The Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign inspires folks to dedicate a tree to their mother, blending family love with eco-friendly action.

Just days earlier, on September 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a special Kadamb sapling at his residence on 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The tree came as a birthday gift from King Charles III of the UK, marking his 75th birthday on September 17. This thoughtful gesture highlights the strong friendship between India and the UK, along with their joint push for environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The British High Commission shared the news on X, noting how the gift drew inspiration from PM Modi’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative. “It’s a symbol of our shared commitment to saving the planet,” they posted.

PM Modi kicked off the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, by planting a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi. He stressed the need for team efforts to build a greener India, pointing to the country’s impressive gains in forest cover over the last decade. The drive ties personal tributes to mothers with bigger goals for a healthier environment.
