Action sought against Sonia Gandhi over name inclusion in voter list before acquiring Indian citizenship

A new legal case has been filed in a Delhi court involving Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. The complaint alleges that her name was added to the voter list back in 1980, even though she officially became an Indian citizen in 1983.

The complainant, Vikas Tripathi, claims that including her in the voter list before she had Indian citizenship suggests forged documents were used. This could be a serious offence under Indian law.

During a hearing on Thursday, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Vaibhav Chaurasia heard initial arguments. The court has now scheduled the next hearing for September 10. Vikas Tripathi has also asked the police to register an FIR and begin a proper investigation into the matter.

This issue has sparked political debate. The BJP has accused Sonia Gandhi of electoral fraud, claiming her early voter registration was illegal. Rajasthan BJP President Madan Rathore questioned, “She was listed as a voter in 1980 but became a citizen only in 1983. Isn’t that a clear case of fraud?”

Rathore also criticized the Congress Party. He argued that whenever the Congress faces defeat, they accuse others of vote manipulation. “If we were involved in election fraud, how did leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and others win their elections?” he asked. He further claimed that Congress has historically tampered with voter lists, inserting fake names and manipulating the electoral process for years.

This controversy continues to unfold as political tensions rise over electoral integrity and the question of Sonia Gandhi’s citizenship status.
