Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Invites UK Firms to Revive Musi Riverfront in Hyderabad
Hyderabad’s Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently rolled out the welcome mat for British companies to jump into the exciting Musi Riverfront Development Project. This ambitious initiative aims to breathe new life into the historic Musi River that cuts right through the heart of the city.
During a key meeting on Thursday, Revanth Reddy also urged UK investors to pour funds into Global Capability Centres (GCCs), the booming pharmaceutical sector, knowledge hubs, and academic collaborations. The chat happened at his Jubilee Hills residence with British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron, sparking talks on stronger India-UK ties in Telangana.
Lindy Cameron shared great news: the UK government will extend the elite Chevening Scholarship to top Telangana students through a co-funding model. She showed keen interest in ramping up partnerships in education and technology, and even offered help to train government teachers and professors in the state.
In response, the Chief Minister pushed for UK universities to set up campuses in Hyderabad. This move would make higher education in the UK more accessible for local students without them having to travel abroad. Revanth Reddy also shared Telangana’s draft Education Policy, spotlighting reforms and fresh opportunities for joint ventures.
The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that Cameron gave a thumbs-up to all ideas and pledged full support to boost Telangana-UK relations.
The Musi Riverfront Development Project is Revanth Reddy’s pet project, designed to transform Hyderabad’s landscape and drive growth. He points out that no other Indian state capital has a river flowing smack through its center like the 300-km-long Musi, which boasts a rich history.
Back in early 2023, during his London visit, Revanth Reddy picked the brains of Thames River revival experts from the Port of London Authority. Inspired by their success, he wants to replicate that magic for Musi.
Last October, the government picked a consortium of five companies to draft the project report. They’ll handle everything from revival plans and cost estimates to lining up funds from various sources. This Musi River revival could redefine Hyderabad’s urban vibe, blending history with modern development.
