Adopt yoga to align with nature’s rhythm: Acharya Devvrat after inaugurating Naturopathy Day Festival

Ahmedabad – On Nov. 9, Gujarat and Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat kicked off the Naturopathy Day Festival in Ahmedabad. The launch marks the start of a nationwide celebration of yoga and natural healing that will run until Nov. 18.

The first event at the Sabarmati Riverfront featured 685 people holding the tree pose (Vrikshasana) together, applying face mud packs, and soaking in the sun. The scale of the session earned spots in both the International and Asian Book of World Records.

During the ceremony, Governor Devvrat unveiled posters for “Naturopathy Day” and “Prakritik Chikitsa Parv”. He highlighted how nature and health are intertwined, saying a healthy soul lives only in a healthy body. He urged residents to embrace yoga, breathing exercises (pranayama), and a diet that follows nature’s rhythm.

“The ancient sages taught us to live in harmony with the earth,” he added. “The further we drift from nature, the more we invite illness. It’s time to return to our roots.”

The governor warned that rising lifestyle diseases—cancer, heart problems, diabetes—are linked to a decline in natural living and the spread of chemical farming. He called on farmers to adopt natural agriculture, emphasizing that chemicals poison soil and threaten health.

“We’re grateful for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives through the Ministry of AYUSH and the National Mission on Natural Farming,” Devvrat said. “These steps help India reconnect with traditional wellness practices under the vision of ‘Virasat bhi, Vikas bhi’ (heritage and progress).”

Shishpal, chair of the Gujarat State Yoga Board, praised the governor’s steady support for yoga, indigenous sciences, cow protection, and natural farming. He pledged to keep spreading awareness of naturopathy and holistic wellness.

Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibha Jain congratulated the organisers and highlighted how Governor Devvrat’s guidance on natural farming has benefited local farmers. She urged citizens to contribute to an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and a developed India, echoing the prime minister’s message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the world is one family.

From Nov. 9 to 18, NGOs, the Gujarat State Yog Board, and the National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN) under AYUSH will host workshops, seminars, and mass yoga sessions across the country. These gatherings will feature group activities such as sunbaths, mud packs, and Vrikshasana, and will again aim for record‑breaking participation.

Participants also sang the “Naturopathy Anthem” to celebrate India’s ancient healing heritage. The festival showcases a growing national movement to embrace natural health practices and sustainable farming for a healthier future.
