A car‑bomb explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening killed eight people and wounded dozens more. The blast, reported to involve a Hyundai i20, sparked a high‑alert response across the capital and led Delhi Police to invoke sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) as investigators chase possible terror links.
In West Bengal, Governor C.V. Ananda Bose flew into Andal airport on a special army plane to attend a college convocation in Bankura. He stopped at the airport to condemn the attack and urged residents to trust the Central government. “What has happened is very unfortunate,” he told reporters. “We have a strong democracy and a strong government that will deal with any such situation.” He promised that the government would take “all steps to ensure safety and security for the people of India.”
The governor’s security detail was heightened. In addition to the governor’s own police officers, nine army jawans and local Asansol‑Durgapur police forces guarded him from Andal to Bankura. After the ceremony, he returned to Kolkata via the same airport.
This incident has prompted the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue a high alert in major cities, including Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal, as authorities work to secure the nation and investigate the blast’s origins.
