Ahmedabad, Nov 7 – The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has opened a new window for city‑wide input on its 2026‑27 budget. City residents can now submit ideas on how to make civic services smoother, more affordable, and person‑centred.
So far, the corporation logged 2,607 suggestions from community members, 798 of which came by e‑mail. A large share of the feedback—1,795 points, or 69 %—topped the list of essential services, while 788 (30 %) fell into non‑mandatory areas. The officers also counted 16 ideas on boosting revenue and 8 on tweaking service delivery.
The biggest concerns echo everyday life in Ahmedabad. Roads and walkways claim the top spot, with 487 submissions (18 %). Drainage and storm‑water systems followed with 327 stamps (12.5 %). Other pressing issues include water supply (297 ideas), street lighting and electrical works (280). Solid waste handling, traffic, and housing each gathered around 4–5 % of the responses. Residents also flagged public health, education, fire safety, and infrastructure projects such as bridges and crematoriums.
In the non‑essential arena, citizens called for greener streets, parks and tree planting, health and welfare programmes, public transport upgrades, and sports & recreation hubs. Parking management, Smart City projects, e‑governance tools, libraries and senior citizen parks also popped into the conversation—showing a city eager for quality‑of‑life boosts and sustainability.
AMC officials will sift through the feedback, turning actionable ideas into budget line‑items. They say the public’s voice will help shape a more efficient, fair and forward‑thinking Ahmedabad in 2026‑27.
The corporation’s core duties span road maintenance, drainage, water supply, street lighting, public health, sanitation, waste disposal, urban planning, housing, and building regulation, as well as schooling and ecological projects.
With citizen‑directed insights, Ahmedabad aims to craft a budget that meets today’s needs while preparing for tomorrow’s challenges.
