New Delhi, Nov 30 (LatestNewsX) – Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh denounced the all‑party meeting called by the centre as a “mere formality,” arguing that the Narendra Modi government had already made its intentions obvious by setting a short‑duration discussion topic without consulting the opposition.
The gathering, held a day before the winter session is set to begin, saw opposition leaders raise a range of issues—from revisions to the electoral roll and a recent blast in Delhi to unemployment, rising inflation, federal powers and law‑and‑order concerns in several states.
The government convened the meeting in an effort to ensure smooth functioning of both Houses during the session.
This year’s winter session will consist of only 15 sittings, a noticeable drop from the typical 20, rendering it one of the briefest in recent history.
The centre plans to introduce 13 legislative bills, along with a single financial bill, during this period.
In a post on X, Ramesh wrote: “The all‑party meeting called by the Modi Govt to discuss the agenda for the winter session of Parliament starting tomorrow is a mere formality.”
He went on to note that the session “will be the shortest in Parliamentary history.” The Modi Govt has earmarked 13 bills for passage, one of which supersedes an ordinance, while two have already passed through a Lok Sabha committee. The remaining ten bills have yet to be examined by their respective standing committees, Ramesh added, warning that a new bill could be introduced later in the abbreviated session.
“The Modi Govt has made its intentions clear by listing a subject for a short‑duration discussion WITHOUT any consultation with the opposition,” he said.
These remarks come amid growing frustration from the opposition over what they view as unilateral scheduling of brief discussions. The monsoon session also suffered from low productivity, spurred by protests over the Special Intensive Review processes in Bihar.
