Samajwadi Party Leader Azam Khan Gets Bail in Allahabad High Court Case
In a big relief for Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Mohammad Azam Khan, the Allahabad High Court granted him bail on Thursday in the long-running Quality Bar land case. This decision clears the way for his possible release from jail soon.
Azam Khan’s lawyer, Mohammad Khalid, shared the good news with . He explained that with this bail, all cases against Khan are now resolved, and nothing keeps him behind bars. "There are no pending cases that would hold him in jail anymore. Bail has come through in every single one as of today. The release process might take two to three days," Khalid said.
Khalid broke down the Quality Bar land case for clarity. It dates back to 2013 when Khan served as a cabinet minister. Prosecutors accused him of abusing his position to lease government land to a family member. The land belonged to a society that ran a building called Quality Bar. "The claim was that Khan used his influence to favor his family. But the truth is different—the society acted independently, issued a public tender, and Khan’s wife won the bid as the highest bidder. That’s how she got the lease," Khalid added.
The FIR in this Allahabad High Court case only surfaced in 2019, with further probes naming Khan as an accused in 2024. His legal team presented all these facts to the court, leading to the bail grant.
This isn’t the first win for Khan in recent times. Back on May 16, an Additional Sessions Judge in the MP-MLA court acquitted him and seven others in a separate case due to lack of evidence. That one stemmed from the 2016 Dungarpur incident, where houses were demolished under the SP government’s Asara scheme. Over a dozen FIRs were filed back then, including one by Shafeeq Bano in 2019. She had alleged her house, built on land bought in 2012, was wrongly targeted.
Azam Khan, a key Samajwadi Party figure from Rampur, has faced multiple legal battles in Uttar Pradesh courts over the years. Fans and supporters will be watching closely as he navigates the final steps to freedom. Stay tuned for updates on his release from jail.
