Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has big plans for Amaravati, promising to wrap up all major development projects in the state capital within three years. Speaking at a media event in Mangalagiri on Friday, Naidu said the Rs 50,000 crore worth of infrastructure work will be fully completed by 2028. He even shared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who kicked off these projects in May this year, will return to inaugurate the revamped Amaravati.
Naidu reassured farmers who donated their land for the Amaravati project, vowing they won’t face any losses. “Amaravati will become a world-class international city,” he declared, drawing inspiration from Hyderabad’s transformation. He pointed out how land prices in Hyderabad jumped from Rs 1 lakh per acre before HITEC City to a whopping Rs 100 crore today. To make Amaravati a hub for global companies, quantum computing firms, and top international educational institutions, the government needs more land, Naidu explained. Without it, he warned, the city might just stay a small town.
Boosting confidence in other key initiatives, Naidu said the long-awaited Polavaram project will finish by December 2027. He emphasized the need for a clear vision to drive Andhra Pradesh’s growth, launching the Swarnandhra Vision 2047 to position the state as India’s top performer in the next 22 years. This plan focuses on building a strong future for generations to come.
Naidu also praised India’s economic boom, crediting reforms by former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. Under the NDA government, the state aims to hit a per capita income of Rs 5,42,985 by 2028-29 and Rs 10.55 lakh by 2029-34. Tackling criticism from the YSR Congress Party, he slammed their “false campaign” on medical colleges. “We’re not handing them over to private players,” Naidu clarified. Instead, the government is adopting a PPP model to upgrade facilities, helping medical students and improving healthcare services across Andhra Pradesh.
On water projects, Naidu highlighted the Polavaram-Banakacharla link canal, which will channel surplus Godavari river water—currently wasted into the sea—to benefit farmers. He noted how the Handri-Neeva project already transformed Rayalaseema, with Anantapur district now leading in GSDP thanks to horticulture promotion. These steps, he said, will bring real change to agriculture and the economy.
