Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu sat down with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Tuesday, pushing hard for more financial help from the central government. He handed over a detailed plan to get Andhra Pradesh included in the Purvodaya Scheme, a key initiative aimed at boosting development in India’s eastern states.
Launched by the Centre, the Purvodaya Scheme focuses on the all-around growth of regions like Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. It targets unlocking economic potential through better agriculture, industry, and infrastructure projects. The goal? To narrow regional gaps and create more inclusive progress across these areas.
Naidu stressed the importance of balanced growth for Andhra Pradesh. He shared how his state government has ready-made plans to make the most of these funds for real regional advancement. In his pitch, he outlined big ideas like expanding horticulture in the Rayalaseema area, growing more coffee plantations along with cashew and coconut farms in North Andhra, and ramping up aquaculture in the coastal zones.
These targeted investments under the Purvodaya Scheme could boost productivity, create jobs, and lift incomes in rural communities, Naidu told Sitharaman. He highlighted how the scheme could transform backward areas like North Andhra and Rayalaseema, which have long struggled with limited industrial and economic opportunities.
Beyond the finance meeting, Naidu has a packed schedule. He’s set to join the CII curtain-raiser partnership summit, where he’ll spotlight investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh and urge businesses to attend the bigger CII grand summit coming up in November in Visakhapatnam.
