Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has praised the recent GST reforms approved by the GST Council, calling them “pro-poor” and “growth-oriented.” He shared his positive reaction on social media after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the new changes following the GST Council meeting.
Naidu expressed his support for the revised GST slabs, which reduce taxes on daily essentials, healthcare, education, and agriculture. He said these reforms will benefit all parts of society, from farmers to small businesses. The TDP leader also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nirmala Sitharaman, highlighting that these reforms align with Modi’s vision for a better, more citizen-friendly tax system.
Starting September 22, only two GST slabs will remain: 5% and 18%. Many common items now fall into these lower tax categories, and some will be tax-free, making everyday goods cheaper for consumers. The government expects these new rates to boost the economy and generate around Rs 48,000 crore in revenue.
Finance Minister Sitharaman emphasized that the reforms aim to make life easier for citizens and doing business simpler. She described the changes as “multi-sectoral and multi-thematic,” focusing on improving ease of living and doing business across India.
Andhra Pradesh’s government also fully supports these GST reforms. State Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav called them a “Diwali gift” for the people and said they are designed to help the poorest sections of society. He stressed that the reforms cover key sectors like food, health, education, steel, cement, and textiles, all aimed at benefiting the common man.
Overall, these major GST reforms are expected to bring cheaper goods, boost economic activity, and support India’s growth.
