In Andhra Pradesh, the TDP‑led NDA government has just released ₹90 crore to pay monthly honorariums for imams and muezzins. The money comes after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the payout during the state’s Minority Welfare Day program yesterday.
Finance Secretary V. Vinay Chand issued the official order on Wednesday, ensuring the funds hit the accounts of religious leaders within 24 hours. Ministry spokesman N. Md Farooq said the state fulfilled its promise the day after the announcement.
The release also covers honorariums that had been left unpaid during the previous YSR Congress Party administration. Farooq noted that the state had cleared payments for April, May and June 2024—months that had been on hold. He also reminded readers that a ₹45 crore payment for July‑December 2024 was made in February, and that the new release covers January‑September 2024, totalling nine months of honorariums plus the three months previously omitted.
“Chandrababu Naidu is a strong supporter of minorities,” Farooq said. He added that the new government is committed to honoring its pledges and that the state’s minority community will always remember the leadership’s focus on welfare. The TDP administration stresses it will actively implement all promises to keep minority supporters confident in their leadership.
