Anti-terrorist operation ends in J&K’s Kulgam district

In a major breakthrough against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces wrapped up a three-day anti-terror operation in the Gudar forest area of Kulgam district on Tuesday. The intense gunfight led to the elimination of two hardcore Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, but it came at a heavy cost with two brave Indian Army soldiers losing their lives.

The operation, launched by joint forces on Sunday after receiving specific intelligence about terrorists hiding in the area, turned into a fierce encounter when the militants opened fire on the approaching teams. According to the Army’s Chinar Corps based in Srinagar, the two neutralized LeT terrorists were identified as Rahman, a Pakistani national, and Amir Ahmed Dar from Daramdora in Shopian. Forces recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and other warlike stores from the site.

Tragically, one terrorist fell in the initial clash, but three Army personnel got injured, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). While the JCO’s condition remains stable after treatment, two soldiers—Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu—succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The Chinar Corps saluted their sacrifice and reaffirmed its resolve to make Kashmir terror-free.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to the martyred soldiers, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah joined a wreath-laying ceremony to honor these heroes who gave their all for the nation’s security.

This operation is part of a broader crackdown by joint forces across Jammu and Kashmir, targeting not just armed terrorists but also their overground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers. Intelligence agencies and security experts stress that dismantling the entire terror ecosystem is key to bringing lasting peace to the region. On top of that, forces are keeping a close watch on drug smugglers and peddlers, as investigations reveal that funds from hawala rackets and drug trafficking fuel terrorism in the union territory.

Such aggressive anti-terror operations in Kulgam and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir show the determination to root out terror threats and ensure safety for everyone.
