Armed Forces Flag Day: Rajnath Singh urges people to contribute to welfare of soldiers, dependents

New Delhi, Dec 7 (LatestNewsX) – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took the opportunity of the Armed Forces Flag Day to thank the Army, Navy and Air Force for their courage and the sacrifices they make every day for India.
The holiday, first celebrated in 1949, has become an annual national event that honors those who have fallen and those who are still on duty, protecting the country’s honour.
On this day the nation shows its unity and raises money for wounded veterans, Veer Naris and their families through donations.
In a recent X post, Rajnath Singh wrote, “On Armed Forces Flag Day, I salute the valour and sacrifices of our armed forces. Their courage safeguards our nation, and their self‑less service reminds us of a debt we can never repay. I urge everyone to contribute generously to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. Your support honours their dedication and strengthens those who protect us.”
Earlier, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also sent his congratulations to soldiers, veterans and Veer Naris, praising their steadfast service, indomitable spirit and lasting impact on India’s security.
Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth posted a message on X, saying, “Armed Forces Flag Day is a day to honour at the national level the unparalleled dedication, duty, and sacrifice of our brave soldiers, ex‑servicemen, and Veer Naris. The hoisting of the flag on this day by Brigadier D.S. Basera, VSM, Secretary of the Central Soldiers’ Board, is a moment of pride for me.” He added that every citizen should help fund the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund and strengthen this vital campaign for military welfare.
The Indian government has been responsible for the welfare of its armed forces since independence. A committee set up by the defence minister on 28 Aug 1949 agreed that December 7 would be the annual Flag Day, a day originally meant to gather small flag donations from the public.
The significance of Flag Day extends beyond a simple fundraiser; it reminds civilians of their duty to support the spouses and dependents of those who serve.
