Asaduddin Owaisi to sound poll bugle in Bihar’s Seemanchal region today

Asaduddin Owaisi, the fiery AIMIM chief and MP from Hyderabad, kicks off his election campaign today in Kishanganj, a key spot in Bihar’s Seemanchal region. With the Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon, he’s diving into a packed five-day schedule full of rallies and public meetings that run through September 27.

Owaisi shared the news on his X account (formerly Twitter) yesterday, teasing possible new political ties. “I’ll reach Kishanganj tomorrow and stay in Seemanchal till September 27, Inshallah,” he wrote. “I can’t wait to meet old friends and make new ones.” His words suggest AIMIM is hunting for local partners after the INDIA alliance ignored their outreach.

About a month and a half back, AIMIM’s Bihar chief Akhtarul Iman wrote to INDIA bloc leaders at Owaisi’s urging. The letter spotlighted Seemanchal’s deep neglect—think poor roads, schools, and jobs—and called for teaming up against the ruling NDA. But no reply came, especially from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Bihar’s main opposition force.

Now, ahead of Owaisi’s tour, AIMIM’s Bihar team is rallying supporters statewide, but mostly in Seemanchal. They want everyone to join in and fight for the region’s fair share.

Seemanchal includes four districts—Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, and Katihar—home to a large Muslim population. That makes it prime territory for AIMIM, which has been building support here. Once an RJD bastion under the late strongman Taslimuddin, a Lalu Prasad Yadav ally, the area has seen RJD’s grip slip since his death. AIMIM’s push has shaken things up, turning it into a hot battleground.

In the 2020 Bihar elections, AIMIM burst onto the scene, snagging five seats in Seemanchal after contesting 24 spots across those districts. They even tried a Kishanganj bypoll in 2015 but came up short. But in 2022, all four AIMIM lawmakers jumped ship to the RJD, hurting the party’s momentum. Still, AIMIM wants back into the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) for 2025 to unite secular votes—though talks haven’t panned out yet.

Life in Seemanchal stays tough. Residents, mostly Muslims, keep demanding better education, healthcare, jobs, and infrastructure. Governments have promised a lot but delivered little, leaving folks frustrated. AIMIM plans to hammer home these issues during the campaign, aiming to win trust and spark real change.

If Owaisi nails these new alliances and keeps the focus on local woes, AIMIM could reshape Seemanchal’s politics big time. It might even give the area’s people fresh hope—if the party delivers on its word.

Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc—RJD, Congress, and left parties—gears up to take on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s NDA in the polls.
