In a big win for the Congress party ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, three former MLAs have joined its ranks in Guwahati. This move comes as the party ramps up its attack on the ruling BJP, slamming them for corruption and running the state like a private company.

The new members include former Sipajhar MLA Binanda Saikia, former Kamalpur MLA Satyabrata Kalita, and former Karbi Anglong MLA Dr. Mansingh Rongpi. They officially joined at Indira Bhawan in Guwahati, with AICC General Secretary Jitendra Singh, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi, and other top leaders present at the event.

Congress leaders say this addition shows how fed up people are getting with the BJP-led government. These ex-MLAs bring strong local influence from different parts of Assam, signaling a shift in mood among politicians and ordinary folks alike.

K.C. Venugopal, Congress General Secretary (Organisation), hit out hard on social media. “All sections of Assam crave change,” he posted on X. “What they’ve seen in recent years is the most corrupt rule in the state’s history—a government run like a private company by Himanta Biswa Sarma. Rampant corruption, looting of public resources, and divisive policies mark its rule.”

The party is now focusing on building a strong base at the grassroots level to emerge as a real alternative to the BJP. Gaurav Gogoi emphasized restoring honest, united, and just governance. “People are turning to Congress for a pro-people government,” he added.

Insiders believe these new joins will boost Congress’s strength in lower Assam and the hill districts. The APCC has been running outreach programs across the state to gear up for the polls, expected early next year.

With the BJP under fire for rising prices, joblessness, and corruption scandals, Congress feels the tide is turning. “The upcoming Assam Assembly elections will be a game-changer,” Venugopal declared. “Assam’s people will back Congress to bring back an inclusive and transparent government.”
