People will talk about your tainted history of six decades: Naqvi on Cong ‘charge sheet’ against Nitish govt

New Delhi – In the fallout from the Congress party’s charge sheet against Bihar’s ruling government, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi took to the media on Friday to question the legitimacy of the accusations and call out what he calls a “history of corruption” that the opposition claims.

Naqvi said the Congress has been pointing fingers at the Nitish Kumar‑led NDA government for “corruption and mis‑governance” during its 20‑year rule in Bihar. The charge sheet, he notes, alleges rampant corruption and regression in key sectors such as healthcare and education, and it also criticises how the government has handled social justice and caste surveys.

“People will now turn to the Congress’s own six‑decade track record,” Naqvi told . “If the truth comes out, it will spread far and wide.” He argued that the charge sheet is a “fabricated story” that the opposition can’t use to make its case.

Naqvi also pointed out that the BJP and its NDA allies have consistently won elections in Bihar and across the country, whereas the Congress and its partners keep splitting votes and then ask for a new mandate. “These lackluster players will lose even in a fixed match,” he said.

In other remarks, Naqvi slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s accusation that the BJP is trying to introduce a National Register of Citizens (NRC) under a new name and remove people from voter lists. “This is a criminal conspiracy of imaginary confusion,” he said. “Citizenship and voting rights are being dismissed as if they could be taken away. It’s all an attempt to mislead the public, and it will burst like a balloon.”

Naqvi also commented on recent meetings between Uttar Pradesh leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Azam Khan. He described the public exchanges as a sign of disarray within their party. “Leadership and coordination are missing. They need to repair broken bonds and focus on unity if they want to be strong,” he said.

Finally, he was asked about remarks made by BSP chief Mayawati at a rally in Lucknow, where she praised the Yogi Adityanath government while criticising Akhilesh Yadav over Dalit issues. Naqvi stayed vague, saying it could be a political move or a reminder of past alliances. He refused to comment further.

The charge sheet has drawn a sharp response from the BJP, which sees the allegations as a smear campaign against the ruling government in Bihar.
