Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off his Assam visit with a vibrant roadshow in Guwahati on Saturday, drawing huge crowds who lined the streets, cheering and waving enthusiastically as his convoy passed by.
The excitement was palpable, with people from all walks of life turning out to catch a glimpse of the PM. Earlier in the day, Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced that Modi would lay the foundation stone and inaugurate projects worth a whopping Rs 18,000 crore. The highlight of the day? A grand celebration marking the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the legendary singer, lyricist, and composer.
At the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati, PM Modi attended the birth centenary event and addressed the gathering. Over 1,200 artists took the stage, performing some of Dr. Hazarika’s iconic songs, paying tribute to his timeless cultural legacy in Assam.
Security was top-notch across Guwahati for the PM’s arrival. Agencies and local authorities deployed personnel at key spots, and they announced traffic restrictions to keep things smooth during the programme.
Modi’s Assam tour continues on Sunday, September 14. He’ll head to Darrang district to launch projects worth more than Rs 3,600 crore. This includes the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, a GNM School, and a B.Sc. Nursing College. He’ll also kick off several road and infrastructure projects and speak at a public meeting around 11 am.
Later, the PM will visit Numaligarh in Golaghat district. There, he’ll inaugurate the Assam Bio-ethanol Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), a big step towards clean energy that cuts carbon emissions and reduces reliance on fossil fuels. Plus, he’ll lay the foundation for the Polypropylene Plant at NRL, a key petrochemical project set to boost Assam’s industrial growth.
Officials say these Narendra Modi Assam projects will supercharge connectivity, healthcare, industry, and green energy in the state, while opening up plenty of new job opportunities for locals.
