Auto driver stabbed to death in Delhi; one held

A 47‑year‑old auto driver was stabbed and later died in Delhi’s northeast Gokalpuri area on Sunday, police said.

The attack happened near Brijpuri Puliya, about 3:55 p.m. A rapid police response followed a “PCR” call that reported a stabbing. Officers found the victim had already been taken to GTB Hospital by his friends.

The deceased, identified as Dev Sharma, a resident of Bhagirathi Vihar and son of Ram Chander Lal, died at the hospital. The police held a forensic team to gather evidence and sent the body for post‑mortem to confirm the exact cause of death.

Delhi Police registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Cr. Code and arrested one suspect for questioning.

Although Delhi has seen a steady drop in major crimes like murder and dacoity, street crimes such as snatching, mobile theft and online fraud have risen this year. Police say the jump is linked to faster digital use and easier city mobility.

To tackle this trend, the police have strengthened specialized units, including the Cyber Crime Unit and Anti‑Snatching Teams. Night patrols, expanded CCTV coverage, and intelligence‑driven policing are being prioritized in outer and northeast districts to curb local violence.

Investigations into the driver’s death continue.
