On Monday, police in Kolkata announced they had taken into custody a Bangladeshi man and a woman from Dankuni, located in Hooghly district of West Bengal, for allegedly producing and selling adult films to illicit pornographic sites.
Acting on a tip, officers from the Dankuni police station raided a flat in the Mallikpara area, catching the pair in the act of filming.
The man, identified as Russell Sikdar, was brought before the Serampore court and will remain in police custody for ten days. The woman has been sent to a shelter home, and investigators are looking into whether she is also a Bangladeshi and her ties to Sikdar.
Sources say Sikdar rented the flat and lived there with the woman. “They were supposedly making explicit content and selling it online at premium rates,” the officers added. Authorities are also checking how Sikdar entered India and what other activities he may have been involved in.
Local municipal officials claimed they were unaware of any Bangladeshi national renting property in the vicinity and highlighted the need for tighter tenant vetting. The investigation is still ongoing.
