Bank fraud case: ED files prosecution complaint against firm’s proprietor, others in Kolkata court

Kolkata, Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has lodged a prosecution complaint with a special PMLA court in Kolkata, targeting P.K. Enterprises in a bank‑fraud investigation, the agency said on Wednesday.
The complaint names P.K. Enterprises’ owner, Prasenjit Das, the son of the late Purnendu Das, who the ED has identified as the mastermind behind the forgery. Other named suspects include Chandan Sarkar, Laltu Saha, and three additional individuals.
According to an ED statement, the probe began after an FIR was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation’s banking and securities fraud cell. During the investigation, authorities uncovered that the late Purnendu Das, through his proprietorship firm, had secured an Rs 8 crore packing‑credit facility and an Rs 25 crore foreign‑bill‑negotiation facility from Allahabad Bank (now merged with Indian Bank). These funds were used to export onions to Bangladesh, but the companies submitted forged export bills, tipping the bank’s loss to Rs 26.72 crore.
The ED also reported that the sight bills backed by letters of credit issued at several Bangladeshi banks and negotiated by Allahabad Bank totaled Rs 25 crore, but became overdue. When Allahabad Bank asked for payment, the Bangladeshi banks denied settlements, citing that the goods had not been received.
Evidence suggests the late Purnendu redirected the loan proceeds into his son’s firm, P.K. Enterprise, and also into his own personal accounts, effectively diverting the funds that Allahabad Bank had lent. He reportedly issued 70 bearer cheques to various onion suppliers—including himself—and used these cheques to withdraw cash through employees of his entity.
An earlier provisional attachment order had already seized five immovable properties worth roughly Rs 34.42 lakh.
