‘Becoming a tool in hands of anti-national forces’: BJP hits back at Cong over ‘modern Ravana’ jibe at PM Modi

BJP slams Congress leader Udit Raj’s “modern Ravana” jab at PM Narendra Modi, accusing the party of anti-Ram bias and cozy ties to Mughal invaders like Babur.

In a fiery response, BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi blasted the remark during a press conference at party headquarters in New Delhi. He called out Congress for what he sees as double standards, saying the party has a long history of opposing Lord Ram’s devotees while honoring figures like Babur.

Trivedi pointed to key moments: Congress allegedly let karsevaks—devotees pushing for the Ayodhya Ram temple—face violence during the 1990s movement. The party also skipped the grand Pran Pratistha ceremony at the newly built Ram Mandir in 2024. Yet, he highlighted, generations of the Gandhi family made trips to Babur’s tomb in Afghanistan. Jawaharlal Nehru went in 1959, Indira Gandhi in 1969, and former PM Manmohan Singh along with Rahul Gandhi visited in 2005.

“Indians can see clear as day who’s backing the demon king Ravana and who’s standing up for Lord Ram’s ancient values,” Trivedi said.

The controversy kicked off earlier when Udit Raj, a Congress leader, took a sharp swipe at Modi on social media. “The way he’s building his golden palace, once he steps inside, he’ll watch that same palace go up in flames,” Raj posted, drawing parallels to Ravana’s mythical downfall in the Ramayana epic.

Trivedi urged sensible Congress voices to step up. He warned that the party seems lost and influenced by anti-national elements, calling it a red flag for both the party and India as a whole.

Other BJP figures piled on. Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala shared Raj’s video online, questioning if this fits Congress’s “shop of love” image or if it’s just more mudslinging at Modi. “Yesterday, a Congress MLA in Telangana insulted Lord Ram. Today, Udit Raj goes too far against PM Modi,” Poonawala tweeted.

The clash highlights ongoing tensions between BJP and Congress over cultural icons like Lord Ram, Ayodhya, and historical figures amid India’s polarized politics.
