Lifeless newborn was exposed to fentanyl before being dumped at NYC hospital in a plastic bag
A forensic pathologist on Friday announced that a newborn who had been brought into a Manhattan hospital by his mother last year was rendered lifeless after exposure to fentanyl and was placed in a plastic bag. The infant, who can only be identified as “John Doe” Santiago‑Sanchez, died on Nov. 21, 2024 while unconscious and unresponsive at New York‑Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
The mother delivered the baby at home on West 143rd Street near Riverside Drive in Hamilton Heights just a day before the tragedy, police sources confirmed. After the hospital staff called the authorities, the medical‑examiner’s office concluded this week that the full‑term infant’s death was a homicide. No arrests have been made as of Friday, and the investigation remains underway.
