Madrid, Nov 7 – Spain’s national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, has added Lamine Yamal to the squad for the World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Turkey. The pair will decide whether Spain secures a direct spot in next summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Yamal was cut from last week’s squad because of an ongoing pubalgia problem and a touch‑and‑go injury in the first two qualifiers in September. Barcelona’s boss, Hansi Flick, had also raised concerns after the 18‑year‑old played in already‑decided games. De la Fuente says Yamal has fully recovered. “He’s in perfect shape and his coach says he can play,” the Spanish coach told reporters. “If we need him, we’ll keep him in the squad.”
Spain’s injury situation
- Defenders missing: Dani Carvajal, Robin le Normand
- Midfielders: Pedri (muscle injury)
- Forwards: Nico Williams (pelvic strain)
New call‑ups: Pablo Fornals, Dani Olmo and Dean Huijsen return to the squad after short injury spells.
Spain topped their qualification group, and wins over Georgia or Turkey will secure a place in the 2026 World Cup.
