West Bengal Governor Visits Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bangladesh Borders Amid Nepal Unrest

Kolkata: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose made a key visit to the borders on Wednesday, stepping up efforts to check security and support those affected by the chaos in Nepal. He headed to Panitanki near the Indo-Nepal border and also checked out the Phansidewa area along the Indo-Bangladesh border. There, he got a close look at the ongoing border fencing work.

During his trip, the Governor chatted with Border Security Force (BSF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel, who keep a sharp eye on these sensitive areas. He didn’t stop there—he also talked to local people, who shared their everyday concerns about life near the borders.

At the Indo-Nepal border, Bose held detailed discussions with administrative officials to understand the ground realities. Speaking to the media after the visit, he shared his thoughts: "This was my first visit, but I plan to come to the border every month to check on surveillance. The border feels peaceful right now, and the SSB is doing a fantastic job monitoring it. The Home Ministry has launched a helpline for stranded tourists, and the Indian government is handling the entire situation."

The timing of this visit couldn’t be more important. With massive unrest shaking Nepal, the Union Home Ministry has ramped up surveillance along the Indo-Nepal border to ensure safety and prevent any spillover issues.

Bose praised the setup and added more details: "The environment here is beautiful, and SSB patrols keep everything secure. The central government is working hard to bring back the stranded trucks carrying goods from Nepal. I’ll report all the details from my visit. In my view, no one but the SSB should handle border surveillance."

In a helpful move, the West Bengal Police have rolled out a dedicated helpline for tourists stuck in Nepal due to the unrest. They posted on social media: "If you or someone you know needs help returning to India via Panitanki or Pashupati Check Post in Darjeeling district, reach out now. Mobile/WhatsApp: 9147889078; Landline: 0354-2252057."

This visit highlights India’s focus on border security and quick support for those impacted by the Nepal crisis, showing how local and central teams are teaming up to keep things smooth.
