Bengaluru traffic system better compared to other metro cities: K’taka Minister

Bengaluru – Govt officials said the city’s traffic and policing are getting better.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara, speaking at Vidhana Soudha after handing over 50 new traffic‑patrol cars, said Bengaluru’s traffic system is in a stronger shape than that of Mumbai, Kolkata or Delhi. “Large industries must help improve life in Karnataka; they’re already putting 2 % of their profits into public causes,” he added.

The state government has also bought cars for the police. This year, 500 vehicles were purchased, he noted. The police department is also equipping itself to respond faster. A command centre, inspired by London’s system and costing ₹26 crore, now lets Bengaluru police reach emergency calls in nine minutes.

The city traffic police launched a new “BTP Astram e‑Accident” app. The feature allows accident victims to file reports on their phones, speeding up insurance claims when nobody’s on the scene. Parameshwara praised the app for easing the burden on motorists.

The police also made headlines for drug busts. In one raid, officials seized drugs worth ₹24 crore. Officers keep visiting schools and colleges to warn students about drug dangers.

Heavy rains have caused potholes, but repair work is underway. Parameshwara said blaming the state government for the problems is unfair. He was joined by senior police and state officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary for Home, the Police Director General, the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and the Traffic Joint Commissioner.
