A social media post by Kerala Congress has caused a heated controversy. The post, which was later deleted, seemed to compare Bihar with ‘bidis’ and mentioned Bihar in a dismissive way. However, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) clarified that the post was not official and was made without their approval.
The post that sparked outrage read, “Bidis and Bihar start from B. Cannot be considered a sin anymore.” After facing strong backlash, the post was quickly removed, and a follow-up apology was issued, saying, “We see that our jibe at Modi’s election gimmick with GST rates is being twisted. Our apologies if you felt hurt.”
KPCC’s senior leader and former minister A.P. Anil Kumar explained that social media posts by party members usually require official clearance. “This post did not have approval and was deleted as soon as we found out,” he said. He also added that the party would investigate how it happened.
The controversy took place during the festive celebrations of Onam in Kerala, sparking anger among Bihar leaders. Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary condemned the post, calling it an insult to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother and the entire state of Bihar. “This exposes the real character of the Congress,” he said.
JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar also criticized the comments, saying Bihar has a rich history and culture linked to Buddha, Sita, and Sufi saints. “Is Bihar just a synonym for bidi? People will reply through EVMs (voting machines),” he warned.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh took a strong stand against the Congress, calling their behavior “mindless” and predicting their downfall. Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav demanded an apology if anyone had made offensive remarks about Bihar.
This incident highlights ongoing political tensions and sensitivities between different states in India. As the controversy unfolds, many are watching to see how the Congress and other political groups respond to the backlash.
