Bihar assembly polls: Supriya Sule assures full support to Congress, RJD

Supriya Sule, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP, told reporters on Sunday that her party will back the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress in Bihar’s upcoming two‑phase assembly elections. She added that the NCP would campaign under the INDIA bloc if the opposition parties invite them to join.

The Bihar polls will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14. Sule said the Chief Ministerial candidate for the “face‑off” will be named closer to the election dates. She assured the public that the NCP will fight “with full strength” alongside Congress and RJD, and will step in if called upon, even though the BJP’s mainstream CM candidate has not yet been revealed.

RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, the state’s Leader of the Opposition, reiterated his promise to create “a government for every family.” He pledged that from November 14 onward, every Bihari would be free from unemployment, offering government jobs to those who currently lack them.

The main contest in Bihar pits the incumbent National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, against the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) headed by the RJD. In the 243‑member Bihar Assembly, the NDA counts 131 seats: the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds 80, Janata Dal (United) has 45, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) 4, and two independents support the coalition. The NDA also includes the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.

The INDIA bloc, on the other hand, brings together the RJD, Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist‑Leninist), the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and the Vikasheel Insaan Party. The coalition aims to consolidate opposition votes across the state.

Meanwhile, political strategist Prashant Kishor has declared his intention to stake a claim on all 243 seats in the assembly, positioning himself as a potential kingmaker in the post‑election landscape.
