Gov. Hochul sees ‘no problem’ with Zohran Mamdani’s controversial ‘how to’ video on thwarting ICE

On Monday, Gov. Kathy Hochul said she had “no problem” with Mayor‑elect Zohran Mamdani’s educational video, which shows how illegal migrants in New York City can “stand up” to federal immigration authorities. During a separate briefing, she reminded reporters that “everybody in this state should know their rights” — for themselves, their families, neighbors, and even fellow worshippers in places of worship. “So no, everybody should know these rights, because they’re being trampled on right now,” she added.

Hochul also clarified that she “have no problem with the mayor‑elect using this platform to let people know the rights they have in this great country.” Mamdani had drawn criticism from conservatives after posting a social‑media clip on Sunday in which he urged people to “stand up to ICE” by knowing their rights. He cited a recent protest in Lower Manhattan where demonstrators surrounded a government building’s garage, thwarting a potential ICE raid on Nov. 29. The confrontation saw NYPD officers clash with over 150 protesters, resulting in several arrests. Mamdani said, “Last weekend, ICE attempted to raid Canal Street and detain our immigrant neighbors,” and added, “As mayor, I’ll protect the rights of every single New Yorker. That includes the more than 3 million immigrants who call this city home.”
