Bihar final electoral roll: Bogus voters removed, says BJP’s Naqvi as Cong alleges mass exclusion

The release of Bihar’s final voter list after a major cleanup drive has sparked a fierce political clash between the BJP and Congress. The Election Commission wrapped up its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, unveiling a list with 7.42 crore eligible voters. But while the BJP hails it as a win against fake voters, Congress leaders cry foul, accusing the process of sidelining poor and marginalized folks.
BJP veteran Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi jumped to defend the effort, calling it a standard step to keep democracy clean. “The goal here is simple: safeguard real voters and weed out the bogus ones,” Naqvi said. He pointed out that voter list reviews like this have happened across India for years, with updates made as needed.
Congress, however, sees a darker side. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai slammed the Election Commission for what he calls unfair exclusions. “Rahul Gandhi has highlighted a huge problem in Bihar—ordinary people, especially the poor, are losing their voting rights without good reason,” Rai said. He urged the EC to accept Aadhaar cards as proof and add back those names to the Bihar voter list immediately.
Adding fuel to the fire, Congress leader Udit Raj claimed this isn’t just a Bihar issue but a nationwide scheme to tilt elections. “Without our protests and the Supreme Court stepping in, 2.1 million new voters might still be off the rolls,” Raj said. He alleged a pattern in states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, where fake voters get added while opposition backers get deleted. “Our team is digging into the updated Bihar voter list right now, and we’ll reveal our next moves soon—it’s already in court.”
The Election Commission announced Tuesday that the SIR process in Bihar succeeded, starting from 7.89 crore voters on the rolls as of June 24. With elections on the horizon, this voter list controversy in Bihar is sure to heat up debates on electoral fairness across India.
